Mr. Musk shared this conversation on his platform X, formerly known as Twitter, when a user suggested he seek “technical support” from Mr. Nadella. “I just texted him,” he responded.
In a direct text message to Mr. Nadella, Mr. Musk expressed his discomfort with the mandatory provision of setting up a Microsoft account on Windows PCs. This discussion occurred after a post announcing Microsoft’s collaboration with Mistral AI. However, Mr. Musk shifted the conversation to a more general concern, saying, “Satya, I don’t want to bother you, but please allow people to skip creating a Microsoft account when setting up a new Windows PC.”
He added that “this option disappears if the computer is connected to Wi-Fi” and complained that “even if you want to sign up, it won’t let you use a work email address, and I only have a work email address!”
Many users found this conversation amusing.
One user commented, “This will go down as the most famous tech support X post in history.”
Elon Musk later revealed that he successfully accessed his Windows laptop PC without creating a Microsoft account. A user had suggested an alternative solution, which Mr. Musk applied and later shared on X.
He posted, “Finally managed to do it, thanks. The laptop had automatically connected to the local Wi-Fi without a password prompt. When I cancelled that, I was able to skip it.”
Satya Nadella has been serving as the CEO of Microsoft since 2014.
