A historic building in York, the Bonding Warehouse, is undergoing a major transformation with an investment of £900,000 by social-impact startup Patch. Known for creating community-focused workspaces, Patch is collaborating with the City of York Council to revitalise the warehouse into a cutting-edge workspace due to open in January 2025.
This new development aims to stimulate local business growth, particularly in the technology and creative sectors, by offering high-quality work environments and community-driven events. It is expected that the space will become a vibrant hub supporting York’s educational, technological, and digital media communities, while also catering to social-impact organisations.
The redevelopment of the Bonding Warehouse, previously the headquarters of Anaplan, includes providing modern amenities like super-fast Wifi, electric standing desks, and private booths. The facility will host an array of community events and offer event space for social enterprises, charities, and local businesses.
Freddie Fforde, founder and CEO of Patch, highlighted the company’s mission to foster creativity and sustainable growth through thoughtfully designed spaces that inspire collaboration and connection: “Our mission is to establish Patch as York’s leading destination for startups and small businesses. Housed within the historic Bonding Warehouse, Patch is poised to become a vibrant hub for entrepreneurs, creatives and community builders.”
Coun Pete Kilbane of the City of York Council praised the initiative, stating, “The investment will provide an exciting space for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and residents to collaborate, create, and thrive in the heart of the city. Patch is a very welcome addition to the building and York’s business community.”
The Bonding Warehouse’s transformation represents a harmonious blend of historic preservation and modern innovation, reflecting York’s dynamic growth as a centre of entrepreneurship.
