The Aviation and Airport Workers Union (SITAVA) held a full meeting today to approve a company’s proposal, which includes a reduction in pay cuts from 25% to 20%, according to union representative Paulo Duarte, speaking to Lusa.
“We had a very large turnout today, with over 600 people, and there was general dissatisfaction because we are still facing cuts,” Duarte stated, adding that “a solution to this issue must be found.”
The union leader explained that “a plenary session was scheduled, and a significant movement was expected, but at the last moment, a proposal came from TAP” which “met the workers’ demands,” leading the union to approve the proposed measures.
“There are measures in place across the board, with the pay cut reduced to 20%, and there are specific areas, like those affecting ground workers,” Duarte said, citing examples like night work and overtime, which were cut but now reinstated, among other issues.
Despite this, there has been “no update to the pay scale,” considering that TAP has denounced certain company contracts.
“The core issue is that TAP workers are being sought after in the market due to their reduced wages, and many are leaving. Thus, a process to retain TAP employees has been found,” he added.
According to Paulo Duarte, after the proposal’s approval, there are currently no plans for further industrial action at the company.
