On Monday, 14th August, the central bank announced in a press release that a scheduled maintenance period has been set. In this context, some services will be unavailable from Monday night at 8 PM until Wednesday, 16th August, at 8 AM. However, the notice did not specify which services would be affected.
Additionally, the central bank will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, in observance of National Mourning Day. During this period, banks and financial institutions will have the opportunity to strengthen their defenses against potential cyber-attacks.
According to sources from Bangladeshi banks, the government’s Computer Incident Response Team remains vigilant due to the risk of cyber-attacks on banks, financial institutions, and other entities on 15th August. For this reason, the central bank’s internet-based services may be suspended during this time. In the future, critical infrastructure (CII), banks, financial institutions, healthcare, and government-private sector operations could be impacted by this precautionary measure. This alert was issued on 31st July, notifying that the Response Team is on high alert due to recent hacking attempts.
On 3rd July, a hacker group threatened to attack Bangladesh’s transport services for an hour. In this incident, their service websites were targeted. Additionally, on 27th June, another hacker group hacked the website of a government college in Bangladesh. Furthermore, on 24th June, another hacker group hacked the website of a healthcare institution in Bangladesh.
