Wyke Farms, renowned for its longstanding heritage in cheese and butter production in Somerset, has unveiled a revamped packaging design as a strategic move following the reception of a prestigious industry award. This rebranding encompasses the introduction of a new logo and prominently features the company’s founding year, 1861, aiming to align its traditional values with a modern market presence.
The rebranding effort was executed in collaboration with the design and marketing agency Big Fish. Rich Clothier, the company’s managing director and a third-generation family member, emphasised that while core family values remain unchanged, the method of conveying these values has been modernised to enhance communication of what the company represents. He stated, “The core values that underpin everything we do and that have been passed down through the generations of my family will never change, but the way in which we communicate them has been updated and we are proud to reveal our new identity.”
In a testament to its commitment to sustainability, Wyke Farms was awarded the Environmental Leadership Award at the recent Food and Drink Federation Awards. The judges commended the company for its innovative use of renewable energy, sourcing all its electricity and gas from biogas and solar power, generated entirely from farm and dairy waste with no residual value. Clothier highlighted, “Our goal has always been to innovate and lead the way in the dairy sectors as a family-owned business that is highly agile with sustainability enshrined in our core values.”
Wyke Farms has displayed a vigorous financial performance, with a reported increase in operating profits by 68.4% to £10.9m for the year ending 31 March 2023. This financial upturn is notably attributed to their anaerobic digestion-based energy division, which notably sold over 60% of its surplus green gas back to the National Grid at unprecedented prices. Additionally, turnover saw a 20% rise to reach £149.5m, as documented in Companies House records.
Wyke Farms’ rebranding and sustainable practices have solidified its position as an innovative leader in the dairy industry.
