Wilko has strategically re-entered the London retail market with the opening of a new store in Uxbridge, situated in The Pavilions Shopping Centre. This move is significant as it marks Wilko’s return to the capital, offering a vast shopping area of 30,000 square feet spread across two levels. The store provides a wide array of products, catering to categories such as cleaning, laundry, decorating, DIY, home and garden, and pet care.
Customers visiting the new store can also access Wilko’s full online range of over 100,000 products through self-service terminals. This feature enables customers to order items for home delivery or opt for click and collect services, which are available within as little as an hour, enhancing shopping convenience and engagement.
Wilko’s Uxbridge store opening is part of a broader strategy implemented under the ownership of CDS Superstores, which trades as both The Range and Wilko. The opening follows several others in locations such as Poole, Exeter, Luton, Plymouth, St Albans, and Rotherham, highlighting a deliberate expansion pattern.
Alex Simpkin, the CEO of CDS Superstores, expressed his satisfaction with the warm reception in Uxbridge, stating the community’s enthusiasm is a testament to their dedication to offering quality products at competitive prices. The positive public reaction suggests a promising future for the store as more shoppers are expected to explore its offerings.
Moreover, CDS Superstores recently incorporated Homebase into its portfolio, acquiring the brand’s intellectual property and up to 70 stores in a pre-pack deal. These stores will continue operating under the Homebase brand initially, but plans are in place to transition them into The Range stores, thereby expanding the scope of offerings in garden, showroom, and DIY sectors. This acquisition reflects a comprehensive strategy to enhance CDS’s retail footprint, leveraging existing brands for broader market penetration.
Wilko’s Uxbridge store signifies a strategic milestone in its broader expansion efforts under CDS Superstores.
