Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo has officially announced its decision to establish a new store located in the Liverpool One shopping centre, marking a significant step in its strategic UK expansion. The new venue, set to open next spring, will cover over 15,000 square feet across two floors, previously occupied by the premium menswear brand Tessuti. This development comes as Tessuti closed its doors after being part of the Frasers Group for 18 months.
In an ambitious expansion effort, Uniqlo has opened four new locations across the UK this year, extending its reach to Edinburgh, London’s Coal Drops Yard, and Oxford Street, alongside a reimagined store in Westfield White City. These ventures contribute to its current tally of 20 stores throughout the UK, with a substantial presence in London.
Uniqlo’s strategic move to Liverpool aligns with its commitment to selecting prime locations to showcase its brand—a sentiment echoed by UK Chief Operating Officer Alessandro Dudech, who emphasised the importance of investing in Liverpool as a leading UK shopping destination. He stated, “Investing in Liverpool, a leading UK shopping destination, was a natural next step, and Liverpool One was the obvious choice.”
The expansion forms part of a broader plan to open 10 new stores throughout Europe in 2024, extending the growth trajectory in the UK, Italy, and France. This ambitious strategy will continue with plans for 15 new stores in 2025 and further expansion to 20 stores in 2026.
Rob Deacon, representing the management of the Liverpool One centre, noted that the acquisition of the space by Uniqlo underscores the centre’s mission to serve as a compelling hub for international brands. He observed that Uniqlo’s presence will enhance Liverpool One’s reputation, attracting diverse clientele and broadening its retail offerings.
Uniqlo’s upcoming store in Liverpool signals a pivotal step in its broader UK and European expansion strategy, bolstering its presence in key markets.
