- Stores in Glasgow, Bournemouth, and Birmingham will open as The Range Superstores on 17 January.
- The transformation promises job security, with plans to secure up to 1,600 positions throughout 2025.
- Homebase’s legacy is retained with dedicated sections like ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’ in the new stores.
The Range is poised to launch its first three new-format superstores after acquiring the Homebase brand and several of its locations. This strategic move involves reopening former Homebase sites in the cities of Pollokshaws, Christchurch, and Kings Heath. According to the company, these outlets are scheduled to open their doors as The Range Superstores by 17 January, aligning with the broader initiative revealed last month.
The parent company, CDS, which now owns both The Range and Homebase, as well as Wilko, has articulated its vision for these outlets. The transformed stores are promised to blend The Range’s extensive product offerings with Homebase’s specialised home improvement expertise. This synergy aims to enhance the shopping experience by providing a comprehensive array of goods and services to meet consumer needs effectively.
Looking ahead, CDS plans to convert up to 70 Homebase locations into The Range stores throughout the year 2025. This ambitious rollout includes the goal of inaugurating approximately 10 new outlets each month. Consequently, this transition is not just about brand expansion; it also focuses on employment, with an expected 1,600 jobs secured due to this endeavour, highlighting its economic significance.
In addition to retail transformations, the openings will feature specific elements to retain Homebase’s identity. Select stores will include ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’, offering customers a familiar garden shopping experience. Additionally, some sites will have ‘Kitchens by Homebase’, providing bespoke kitchen solutions, further enriching the customer offerings.
During this transition period, the transactional aspects of the Homebase website will continue under the oversight of the Joint Administrators until early 2025, at which point it will be relaunched under CDS management, thereby ensuring continuity for consumers in their home improvement projects.
This strategic development underscores The Range’s commitment to preserving Homebase’s heritage while expanding its own retail presence across the UK.
