Tesco is expanding its dessert offerings by integrating Creams café concessions into several of its UK stores. This move follows a successful trial at their Streatham site last November. The concession in Gateshead opens on 3 August, followed by Maryhill, with more locations planned later this year.
Each concession, operated by Tesco staff, will provide customers with a selection of 24 gelato ice cream flavours alongside other popular desserts like waffles, cookie dough, crepes, sundaes, and milkshakes. The aim is to enhance the in-store dining experience with a wide variety of sweets and treats.
The cafes will be adorned with distinctive design elements including fluorescent accents, skateboards, and neon signs. These aesthetic choices are intended to create a welcoming, family-oriented environment that distinguishes Tesco’s cafés from those of other UK supermarkets.
Furthermore, Tesco is collaborating with technology solutions provider Givex to digitally enhance its café operations. This partnership will introduce digital kiosks for customer orders, a sophisticated kitchen automation system, and tools for managing inventory and menus efficiently.
Everett Fieldgate, CEO of Creams, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting, “This is a fantastic fit for both us and Tesco,” and highlighting its potential to set Tesco apart by offering something unique among supermarket chains, particularly appealing to families with young children.
This strategic partnership reflects Tesco’s commitment to innovating its in-store offerings by blending popular dessert options with cutting-edge technology.
