Walkers has proactively reduced the salt content in its popular Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli crisps by 18%. This significant reformulation caters to the growing segment of health-conscious consumers demanding lower salt content in their snacks.
The crisp manufacturer assures that despite the reduction in salt, the beloved sweet and spicy flavour profile of the Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli remains uncompromised. This achievement is credited to innovative seasoning and reformulation efforts by Walkers’ dedicated research and development team based at the Beaumont Park facility in Leicester.
Wayne Newton, Walkers’ Senior Marketing Director, confirmed, ‘Our experienced R&D experts have reduced Thai Sweet Chilli’s salt content by 18%, whilst also maintaining the delicious sweet and spicy flavour that people love.’
This development also categorises Thai Sweet Chilli, along with Crushed Sea Salt & Black Peppercorn, Mature Cheddar & Chilli Chutney, and Balsamic Vinegar & Caramelised Onion, as non-HFSS (not high in fat, salt, or sugar). This shift responds to the public’s demand for snacks that do not compromise health for taste.
Walkers aims for 50% of its snack sales to be from healthier alternatives by 2025, with 30% derived from products classified as HFSS and 20% from snacks sold in 100-calorie or less portions. This strategic objective demonstrates Walkers’ commitment to public health and innovative product development.
The reduction in salt content for Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli highlights Walkers’ dedication to aligning with consumer health trends and maintaining flavour integrity.
