Sainsbury’s has rolled out a festive initiative designed to engage its Nectar customers, offering digitally registered users the opportunity to earn a minimum of 1,500 bonus points. Through the ‘Count up to Christmas’ challenge, participants are presented with five personalised shopping tasks, which they can complete either in-store or online at Sainsbury’s.
The challenge is accessible exclusively via the Nectar app, where users must log in and select ‘join the challenge’ to reveal their specific tasks. This promotional activity spans a period from 9 October to 15 December, providing ample time for participants to complete their tasks and accumulate bonus points over the holiday season.
Alex Naisby, Sainsbury’s director of CRM and loyalty, remarked on the return of the initiative, emphasising its popularity among customers as they seek to maximise their Nectar points. “Whether you like to save them up for a seasonal treat or put them towards your weekly shop, we hope that our customers enjoy getting in the festive spirit with us in the run up to Christmas,” he stated.
In tandem with this customer-focused endeavour, Sainsbury’s is also preparing to bolster its workforce in anticipation of the Christmas rush. The supermarket chain plans to recruit 20,000 new seasonal employees, with roles spanning across stores, warehouses, and online fulfilment centres nationwide. This significant hiring initiative includes positions for 18,000 workers within Sainsbury’s operations and an additional 2,000 roles allocated to Argos, reflecting the company’s comprehensive strategy to manage increased demand during the festive period.
Sainsbury’s ‘Count up to Christmas’ challenge and seasonal hires illustrate its proactive approach to enhancing customer engagement and operational readiness for the holidays.
