Liverpool Council has approved plans for the construction of a new hotel near Bramley-Moore Dock, set to enhance the local landscape with an 80-bed establishment. This development will provide visitors with stunning views of the new 52,888-capacity stadium being constructed for Everton Football Club.
The site, a blend of industrial and historic structures, features a Grade II listed mill, which will be transformed into part of the hotel’s accommodation. The plans include maintaining significant architectural elements like cast-iron door frames and exposed brickwork, preserving the site’s historical essence.
Fast Growth Homes, the company behind this initiative, aims to merge the old with the new by converting the listed building to house 32 rooms, while a new section will add 48 more. This approach not only respects the aesthetic importance but also utilises contemporary design to uplift the area’s economic and cultural value.
Evidence of the site’s historical significance is robust, with references to its past, including the former American Hotel that once stood there. The mill, originating around 1850, played a vital role in storing essential goods until its closure as a warehouse in the late 1970s. Recently, it functioned as artists’ studios but has remained unused for several years.
Local councillors have expressed unanimous support following a comprehensive site tour. Chris O’Flaherty, the managing director at Fast Growth Homes, highlighted the company’s previous successes and confidence in fostering Liverpool’s tourism and cultural landscape through this development. Additionally, Paul Lloyd, a director at FGH, emphasised the strategic importance of the hotel, enhancing the area’s appeal near the stadium.
