Mulberry, a prominent British luxury brand, has successfully achieved B Corp certification, aligning itself with other notable UK retailers. This accomplishment highlights Mulberry’s dedication to maintaining high social and environmental standards, as required by the rigorous B Corp framework.
In earning a score of 87.1 out of 140, Mulberry surpasses the B Corp’s threshold of 80, as well as the fashion industry average of 80.9. This achievement reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainability across various dimensions such as governance, workers, community, and customers. This certification acts as a testament to Mulberry’s efforts towards ethical and sustainable practices.
A focal point of Mulberry’s strategy is its ambitious goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. The brand intends to cultivate partnerships with regenerative farmers and establish comprehensive supply chains that adhere to sustainable practices. Mulberry’s initiatives include enhancing their resale and repair programme, known as Mulberry Exchange, and extending its reach to international markets including Korea, Australia, and Japan.
Mulberry demonstrates its dedication to fair labour practices by adhering to the Real Living Wage, a voluntary hourly rate endorsed by the Living Wage Foundation. The brand is also working closely with its suppliers to help them meet these standards, showcasing its commitment to improving worker welfare within its supply chain.
Andrea Baldo, who recently became the CEO of Mulberry, praised the milestone, stating, “Mulberry is one of the first global luxury brands to become a B Corp, and this reflects the DNA of the company and the hard work of the teams. But it is a milestone, not a destination, and we look forward to learning from – and contributing to – a range of businesses in order to be a force for good for our communities and the environment.” His statement underscores the importance of continuous improvement and collaboration in the sustainability journey.
Mulberry’s attainment of B Corp status exemplifies its ongoing dedication to sustainability and ethical practices.
