- Since launch, it has successfully processed over 1.6 tonnes of materials.
In a move towards enhancing sustainability efforts, M&S has expanded the reach of its Beauty Takeback Scheme to include a total of 100 stores across the UK. This extension is designed to make the recycling process more accessible for consumers nationwide, reaffirming the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The Beauty Takeback Scheme, initiated in June 2023 as a segment of M&S’s comprehensive Plan A roadmap, aims for a net-zero impact. By allowing customers to recycle any kind of beauty packaging, such as bottles, tubes, caps, and pumps from any retailer, M&S is actively facilitating a more significant reduction in landfill waste.
This service is now available in newly added locations, including the Birmingham Bullring, Cardiff, and Inverness, making it convenient for more customers to participate. These boxes are strategically located within the store’s beauty sections to ensure ease of access during shopping.
The scheme’s effectiveness is underscored by the fact that it has processed over 1.6 tonnes of beauty packaging since its inception, potentially diverting a substantial amount of waste from landfills. This step aligns with M&S’s ambition to drive a more circular economy by promoting the reuse and recycling of materials.
As Katharine Beacham, M&S head of sustainability for clothing & home, remarks, “At M&S, we want to play our part in driving a more circular economy, and the circularity services we offer are key to this.” M&S’s initiative continues to resonate with environmentally conscious consumers looking for practical recycling solutions.
Expanding the Beauty Takeback Scheme reinforces M&S’s dedication to sustainability and customer accessibility.
