Buenos Aires-born Adrian Appiolaza has been appointed as the new creative director of Moschino, marking a significant transition for the fashion house. His appointment follows the untimely death of his predecessor, Davide Renne, who passed away only ten days after assuming the role.
Appiolaza comes with a wealth of experience, having spent a decade as the ready-to-wear design director at Loewe. Before his tenure at Loewe, he enriched his skills by working closely with notable designers such as Clare Waight Keller at Chloé, Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, and Miuccia Prada at Miu Miu since 2006.
Ready to present his first collection in this role, Appiolaza has relocated to Milan from Paris, aligning with the fashion capital’s vibrant scene. His approach to design is expected to bring a unique theatrical touch to Moschino’s established aesthetic, as he pays homage to the brand’s storied legacy initiated by its founder, Franco Moschino.
Massimo Ferretti, executive chairman of Moschino’s parent company, Aeffe Group, expressed confidence in Appiolaza’s capabilities. He highlighted Appiolaza’s innovative ideas and his deep respect for fashion history as essential assets to drive the brand forward.
Appiolaza himself expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the historical significance of the Moschino brand. He intends to infuse the upcoming collections with both respect for tradition and a refreshing creativity, aiming to capture the quintessential Moschino spirit.
Appiolaza’s appointment signals a promising new era for Moschino, combining respect for its legacy with innovative design.
