Marks & Spencer has announced the freezing of school uniform prices for a fourth successive year, reflecting its ongoing dedication to affordability during the back-to-school season. This decision allows parents to purchase school uniforms at the same prices as in 2021, with items such as a three-pack of white unisex polo shirts ranging from £7 to £15 and a two-pack of boys’ trousers priced between £11 and £17.
From 2 July, the retailer will offer a 20% early-bird discount on school uniforms, providing additional financial relief for families. This promotion is part of Marks & Spencer’s broader strategy to support customers facing financial constraints and to ensure accessibility to essential school attire.
In a strategic move to enhance customer experience, Marks & Spencer has introduced school uniform advisers across more than 120 of its clothing and home stores. This initiative, backed by a £1 million investment, aims to provide personalised assistance to customers, making the back-to-school shopping experience as seamless as possible.
The company’s internal survey, the M&S Family Matters Index, conducted in May, highlighted significant economic challenges faced by consumers. According to the survey, 75% of families are burdened by the current cost of living crisis, with nearly half of the respondents prioritising value when shopping for goods.
Alexandra Dimitriu, kidswear director at M&S, emphasised the company’s mission to offer ‘trusted value, hand-me-down quality, and exceptional service.’ She affirmed that this year’s measures, from price stability to the investment in dedicated advisers, are designed to uphold M&S’s position as the market leader during the school season.
Marks & Spencer’s strategies reflect a comprehensive approach to supporting families during economically challenging times.
