Lacoste is making significant strides in improving supply chain sustainability, as discussed at the Drapers Supply Chain Summit.
- Fashion brands are urged to proactively embed sustainability, without waiting for external pressure.
- A global roadmap is in development for Lacoste, targeting packaging waste and carbon emissions.
- Handling returns sustainably is identified as a critical challenge for retailers.
- Collaboration with third-party suppliers can effectively lower carbon emissions.
During a keynote discussion at the Drapers Supply Chain Summit, the imperative of embedding sustainability into supply chains was emphasised, with Lacoste’s senior director of merchandising and supply chain, Matt Blackmore, highlighting the need for fashion retailers to take initiative independently of external demands.
Blackmore unveiled that a comprehensive global roadmap is under development at Lacoste, focusing on reducing packaging waste and carbon emissions alongside improving repair strategies. The roadmap aims to be operational by the end of the year, reflecting Lacoste’s proactive approach.
The challenge of managing product returns sustainably was underscored by both Blackmore and Stuart Greenfield, sales director at Advanced Supply Chain Group. They stressed the importance of utilising returned products to prevent them from ending up in landfills, with Greenfield noting partnerships with charities as a viable solution.
Greenfield further explained how working with third-party suppliers like Advanced Supply Chain Group can streamline processes, reducing carbon emissions by optimizing the delivery of non-compliant and compliant stock into a single, sustainable load. This approach not only cuts emissions but also reduces costs.
Advanced technology is being leveraged to ensure accurate labelling at distribution centres, a process Blackmore described as reducing complications for his team and minimizing inefficiencies.
Looking ahead, Blackmore expressed aspirations to further enhance Lacoste’s supply chain through ongoing improvements, focusing on speed and customer service enhancements.
Lacoste is committed to advancing sustainability in its supply chain with strategic initiatives.
