Kenji has announced the appointment of Eddie Shepherd, previously the CEO at Clintons, as its new managing director. This strategic move is aimed at leveraging Shepherd’s extensive experience in retail to enhance Kenji’s growth within the UK market. Shepherd, who joined Kenji in August, brings with him over two decades of retail expertise, having dedicated nine years to Clintons, with more than six years as chief executive. Shepherd expressed his enthusiasm stating, “Kenji’s commitment to innovation and customer excellence aligns perfectly with my values, and I look forward to contributing to the company’s growth journey. Together, we will build on the strong foundation already in place and drive the business forward, all while supporting high streets across the UK.”
In addition to Shepherd’s appointment, Kenji has also welcomed Suzanne Harlow as chair of its newly formed board. Harlow, who brings more than two decades of experience at Debenhams and served as CEO of Jack Wills, is expected to provide strategic oversight as Kenji undertakes its expansion plans. Her experience in international markets and multi-brand strategy will be pivotal in supporting Kenji’s ambitious plans to double its presence on the high street by 2025.
The company’s expansion strategy includes the opening of a new flagship store in Westfield London, indicating its commitment to increasing market visibility and customer reach. This comes on the heels of the successful launch of its Manchester Trafford flagship store. As part of its expansion, Kenji also plans to upsize its existing stores in Warrington and Bury, reinforcing its footprint in key locations.
Kenji’s operations director, Derek Yong, highlighted the significance of these appointments, acknowledging that “Eddie’s extensive retail track record and Suzanne’s strategic leadership experience are invaluable additions as Kenji embarks on its new chapter. Their combined expertise will be instrumental in driving our vision forward, enhancing our market presence, and continuing to deliver exceptional value to our customers.”
These strategic appointments reflect Kenji’s commitment to strengthening its leadership team as it embarks on an ambitious growth trajectory.
