From 21 October, Itsu’s dragon roll sushi will be a part of Tesco’s £5 meal deal, marking a significant addition to their lunchtime offerings. This initiative allows shoppers to indulge in a variety of sushi options, including Teriyaki Salmon, Vegetable Crunch, Katsu Chicken, and California rolls, priced at £4.75 each. Tesco’s decision reflects a shift in consumer preferences, as revealed in their recent announcement indicating sushi’s surpassing smoked salmon sandwiches as the leading choice for lunch.
Each sushi pack comes thoughtfully equipped with a mayo sachet, sweet soy sauce, and crunchy tempura pieces, complemented by packaging specifically designed to prevent sauce spillage, ensuring a mess-free dining experience. The inclusion of these elements not only elevates the flavour profile of the meal but also demonstrates a focus on consumer convenience.
Beyond the chilled sushi range, Itsu expands its influence in Tesco with five new frozen products. This addition includes two types of dumplings, Chicken Soup and Vegetable Steamed, available for £3, offering easy preparation via microwaving in their packaging within minutes. Additionally, three veggie snacks – Vegetable Tempura Fries, Glazed Miso Aubergine, and Pumpkin Crispy Fritters, priced at £3.25 each – enhance the meal options, serving as suitable mains or sides. These new items integrate seamlessly with Itsu’s existing frozen gyoza line.
The strategy to introduce these products into Tesco aligns with the retailer’s broader aim to diversify and modernise its product offerings to meet evolving consumer tastes. The frozen goodies are currently available in Waitrose, Morrisons, and Asda, with plans to launch in Tesco stores from 4 November.
Itsu’s collaboration with Tesco reflects evolving consumer preferences and strategic product diversification.
