Borough22, founded by Ryan Panchoo, provides a unique line of doughnuts that cater to individuals with various dietary restrictions. The brand’s inception was motivated by Panchoo’s desire to offer his children, who have multiple dietary allergies, enjoyable and safe treats similar to those enjoyed by their peers.
Recognising a market gap, Panchoo developed gluten-free, vegan, low-sugar, Halal, and Kosher certified doughnuts, eliminating the struggle of finding multi allergen-free desserts. These products are both available online and retailed in Selfridges, London, where a partnership has fostered staff allergy awareness training, demonstrating Borough22’s commitment to inclusivity.
In celebration of Black History Month, Borough22 has released a Grenada-inspired selection box. Drawing from his heritage, Panchoo curated flavours such as ‘Isle of Spice’ ring doughnuts, mango glazed doughnuts, and chocolate plantain doughnuts, inspired by the spices and fruits of Grenada. This initiative not only highlights cultural diversity but also reinforces the brand’s innovative spirit.
Panchoo launched Borough22 initially as a side business, which transitioned into a full-time venture following redundancy from his previous employment. His dedication, coupled with a strategic location choice linked to London’s 22nd borough, underscores the thoughtfulness behind the brand.
Looking forward, Panchoo is optimistic about Borough22’s international expansion, encouraged by inquiries from regions including the Middle East and the United States. He asserts that allergies do not discriminate by geography, hence his ambition to make Borough22’s inclusive confections accessible worldwide.
Borough22 exemplifies how personal experiences can drive innovation in creating inclusive products.
