In an ambitious collaboration, Greggs and Fenwick are set to unveil a Champagne bar in Newcastle, an initiative described by the bakery chain as its ‘most premium’ yet. Opening on 24 October, guests can enjoy this exclusive experience within Fenwick’s iconic department store until 31 December. This move marks a significant expansion into premium dining, leveraging the festive season to attract visitors with its reservation-only model.
The menu is the brainchild of Fenwick’s executive head chef Mark Reid in collaboration with Greggs, offering a twist on the latter’s iconic savoury pastries. Classic offerings like the sausage roll and Steak Bake are elevated with contemporary condiments such as hot honey chilli sauce and peppercorn aioli, respectively. Visitors will also find the sausage, bean & cheese melt reimagined with a bloody mary ketchup, promising an inventive culinary journey.
For beverage enthusiasts, the bar presents a refined selection of Champagnes from renowned houses like Bollinger and Laurent Perrier. Larger than life, the Louis Roederer Cristal is available at a premium price, reflecting the partnership’s commitment to luxury. Complementing the savoury fare, a collection of cocktails inspired by Greggs’ sweet treats includes the ‘Yum Yum Twist’ and ‘Cream Éclair’, designed to delight the dessert palate.
The initiative follows the success of last winter’s Bistro Greggs, where over 1,700 Steak Bakes were sold, proving the demand for unique dining experiences that blend traditional and modern elements. According to Leo Fenwick, this newest venture is a testament to the ongoing evolution of in-store dining options at Fenwick, offering guests a combination of familiarity and novelty.
Hannah Squirrell from Greggs noted that the juxtaposition of Champagne and Greggs’ offerings is an unexpected pairing aimed at drawing both returning and new customers. She emphasised the draw of enjoying a contemporary dining experience at one of Newcastle’s most beloved locations.
The collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick promises a unique fusion of traditional snacks with premium beverages, ensuring a noteworthy culinary experience.
