Goodhood, a renowned independent retailer, has opened its new store on Hanbury Street in East London. This move comes as Goodhood seeks to better accommodate its increasing customer base and explore innovative retail strategies.
Originally established in 2007 by Jo Sindle and Kyle Stewart on Coronet Street in Hoxton, Goodhood moved to Curtain Road in 2014, where it has remained for a decade. The latest relocation represents another evolution in its journey, positioning itself between Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane, an iconic shopping district known for its vibrant culture.
The new store reflects the founders’ inspiration drawn from a lifelong admiration for Japan, showcasing a dynamic approach to retail. Through a rotational stock model, Goodhood plans to adapt swiftly to changing customer preferences, featuring products from popular brands such as Snow Peak and Yeti, and design-led homeware from Seth Rogan’s Houseplant.
In keeping with recent market trends, the modular design of the store is intended to support ongoing events, pop-ups, and community engagements, similar to the strategy employed by LN-CC. Brands like Aries, Nike, Our Legacy, and Stüssy are a significant part of its inventory, continuing Goodhood’s tradition of prioritising quality and timeless designs.
The store will also host local brands, including Artwords’ magazines and books, and vintage items from Unified Goods. Music curation is by Hackney record store Stranger Than Paradise, adding a unique audio experience for shoppers.
In 2022, Goodhood introduced its own fashion line, Goods by Goodhood, in collaboration with Ed Davis of Brain Dead. This initiative will gain more prominence in the new store, featuring a broader range of styles. Additionally, Goodhood will launch ‘Goo’, a brand incubator offering comprehensive services like strategy and product design, leveraging its well-established industry presence.
Kyle Stewart, co-founder, expressed confidence in these innovations saying, ‘It’s our belief that there’s a vibe shift happening – and our new home seeks to reflect that.’ The expansion aims to redefine retail experiences while maintaining strong customer relationships that have been the foundation of Goodhood’s success.
