Frasers Group, a leading player in luxury retail, has undertaken a strategic rebranding by transforming Coggles’ sole storefront in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, into a Flannels location. This development follows its acquisition of Coggles from THG, marking an important step in Frasers’ expansion strategy.
Coggles, originally founded as an independent boutique in York in 1974, has been a staple in luxury fashion retail since being acquired by THG in 2013. The Alderley Edge store, operational since 2017, was its only physical outlet, now rebranded under Frasers Group’s luxury fascia Flannels.
In June, THG reached an agreement with Frasers Group for the sale of Coggles along with other luxury digital platforms, including The Hut, MyBag, and Allsole. These entities collectively registered a revenue of £43 million for the year ending December 31, 2023. The transition aligns with a broader partnership strategy between the two business giants.
Despite the rebranding, the market has voiced concerns regarding the independence of Coggles moving forward. There is apprehension over Frasers Group’s rapidly expanding dominance in the premium and luxury market segments. In fact, June reports indicated that THG informed various luxury brands about the cancellation of orders for upcoming fashion seasons, impacting AW24 and SS25 collections.
Frasers has notably increased its physical footprint through Flannels, with significant store openings such as a 70,000 sq ft flagship in Leeds and a 20,000 sq ft outlet in Milton Keynes. This brings their total UK and Ireland store count to over 80, highlighting a vigorous retail expansion strategy.
Coggles’ rebranding into Flannels signifies Frasers Group’s aggressive pursuit of growth in the luxury retail sector.
