Footasylum is set to continue its expansion with a new store in Aberdeen, scheduled to open this September. This move highlights its strategic growth as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the UK retail market. The new store is situated on the ground floor of Union Square shopping centre, a significant retail and leisure hub in the city, alongside well-known brands such as Superdry and Superdrug.
The Aberdeen location will span 7,000 square feet, offering a diverse range of branded streetwear, including popular international brands like Nike and Adidas, as well as Footasylum’s proprietary lines such as Monterrain, Zavetti Canada, and Dripmade. This location aims to deliver a unique and dynamic shopping experience to its customers.
The unveiling of the Aberdeen store is part of Footasylum’s ongoing expansion strategy, which has seen over 60 stores established across the UK. Notable developments include the opening of a 20,000 sq ft flagship store on Oxford Street and recent upsizings in Birmingham’s Bullring and Leeds’ White Rose shopping centre. Another substantial store opened in Gateshead’s Metrocentre earlier this month, covering 13,000 sq ft.
David Pujolar, CEO since March, expressed confidence in the Aberdeen store’s location, highlighting its potential to enhance Footasylum’s brand visibility and customer reach in Scotland. “Union Square shopping centre is the city’s largest retail and leisure destination, and I have no doubt it is the right location for our first-ever Aberdeen store,” Pujolar stated.
Financially, Footasylum has reported a promising year, with EBITDA rising by 38% to £22 million for the year ending 27 January 2024. This increase was driven by enhanced sales across various channels, including the establishment and expansion of physical stores, resulting in a 7% year-on-year revenue growth, totalling £320 million, marking another record year for the business.
The launch of the Aberdeen store signifies a pivotal step in Footasylum’s strategic retail expansion, poised to strengthen its market presence across the UK.
