Fenwick’s Newcastle store has unveiled its 2024 Christmas window displays, presenting a contemporary take on the traditional ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’. These displays narrate the story of Foggy, a partridge with a dream to meet Santa and aid in the growth of his pear tree. Paul Baptiste, head of creative, describes this year’s theme as ‘a fresh perspective on a classic story, infused with surprise elements’.
The creative vision for the windows has been realised by author and illustrator Chris Riddell. His ideas have been transformed into a festive spectacle by Propability, a family-run design and production firm known for its distinctive craftsmanship. This partnership has resulted in a unique visual interpretation of the beloved carol.
Audio for the display is provided by The Unthanks, a band originating from Tyneside, whose custom rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ enhances the viewing experience. This collaboration with The Glasshouse International Centre for Music offers a musical layer to the visual display, enriching the festive storytelling.
Mia Fenwick, the retailer’s chief marketing officer, acknowledges the role of Chris Riddell and Propability in the execution of this project. She notes the window displays not only captivate audiences but also serve as a homage to the art of British storytelling. Fenwick expresses hope that these displays will spread joy and bring people together, whether viewed in person or online, during the festive season.
Fenwick’s 2024 Christmas windows combine traditional charm with modern creativity, offering a refreshing holiday experience.
