eBay UK has launched an innovative trade-in option allowing consumers to recycle their outdated tech while receiving cash. This service caters to a diverse range of devices, spanning eight distinct categories such as phones, tablets, smartwatches, and gaming consoles, without necessitating an upfront fee from participants.
Through a strategic partnership with Fonehouse, eBay will manage the inspection, repair, and refurbishment of traded-in items, subsequently reselling them on its marketplace. Consumers interested in this programme can easily ascertain the value of their old devices by inputting product details online. Thereafter, eBay provides a 14-day window for users to send their devices without incurring postage costs.
Once dispatched, Fonehouse ensures all personal data is securely erased from the devices, with added postal insurance safeguarding the items. Post-processing, customers can opt to receive their payment as either an immediate eBay coupon, which offers the benefit of using it towards upgraded purchases, or a direct bank transfer.
To further stimulate engagement with this recycling initiative, eBay has introduced a limited-time offer, providing an additional £50 for select devices traded in from 9 December 2024 to 3 January 2025.
