As the festive season approaches, Waitrose has reported a notable increase in early Christmas shopping activity. Online searches for Christmas gifts and seasonal party foods on Waitrose.com have tripled, reflecting a strong consumer appetite for holiday preparations well ahead of time.
In addition to the surge in gift searches, demand for festive confectionery and desserts has doubled when compared to the same period last year. This indicates a growing enthusiasm among consumers to indulge in holiday treats earlier than usual.
The elevated demand has significantly impacted Waitrose’s delivery service. As of now, 70% of the available delivery slots have been filled, underscoring the eagerness of customers to secure their holiday essentials well in advance.
The Christmas delivery service, which launched on the 25th of September, has achieved a 6% increase in bookings compared to the previous year. The most sought-after day thus far is the 23rd of December, with nine out of ten slots already reserved.
Maddy Wilson, Waitrose’s own brand director, remarked on the burgeoning interest: “We’re seeing a huge appetite for Christmas already with online slots filling up faster than ever before and customers stocking up early on our festive treats.”
Early demand for Christmas at Waitrose signifies a robust consumer readiness to commence the festive celebrations.
