John Fallon, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at DFS, has announced his decision to resign from his position. He will not seek re-election at the Annual General Meeting scheduled for 22 November, but will continue in his role until the middle of January 2025. This continuation is to ensure that there is a smooth and seamless transition to his yet-to-be-appointed successor.
DFS has already begun an external search for a new Chief Financial Officer to take over following Fallon’s departure. His tenure at DFS began in November 2022, after a significant period at the supermarket giant, Asda, where he honed his financial leadership skills. The transition period is strategically planned to coincide with the first half of DFS’s financial year, a critical time for financial reporting and planning.
John Fallon said, “The DFS Group is a great business, with many exciting opportunities ahead – and I am sure that the business will make the most of those opportunities in the years ahead.” Fallon’s contribution to DFS during challenging times is noteworthy, with his leadership helping to stabilise and prepare the company for future growth. He further shared his anticipation to assist the DFS team during the Christmas trading period, a pivotal time for the retailer.
DFS Chairman, Steve Johnson, publicly thanked Fallon for his invaluable contributions to the DFS board. His leadership was pivotal during a challenging period, leaving the business in a robust position ready for future growth. Johnson stated, “He has been an asset to the board and we wish him all the best as he considers his next executive role.“
The transition marks a new chapter for both DFS and John Fallon, as the retailer seeks fresh leadership and Fallon looks toward new ventures.
