Co-op has announced an accelerator scheme to support smaller suppliers.
- The programme will run alongside the existing Apiary incubator scheme.
- It is designed to promote brand diversity and inclusivity.
- The scheme offers masterclasses, networking, and mentoring for participants.
- Ten innovative suppliers will join the inaugural wave later this year.
Co-op is unveiling a new accelerator programme aimed at supporting smaller suppliers in their growth and development. This initiative will complement the existing Apiary incubator scheme, which assists suppliers at the start of their retail journey. The new programme is an effort to further encourage diversity within the brand offerings and ensure inclusivity across suppliers.
The accelerator scheme is open to both new and existing suppliers. It offers a range of developmental opportunities such as masterclasses, networking with mentors, and direct support from category buyers. Additionally, larger suppliers participate in Co-op’s Gift to Give initiative, which provides assistance to smaller businesses within the scheme.
The inaugural wave of the accelerator scheme will feature ten purpose-driven suppliers including Bio & Me, Brewgooder, Dr Wills, and others. These suppliers are selected based on their alignment with cooperative values and their drive to contribute positively to the market. They will all receive tailored support to accelerate their growth both within Co-op shelves and the broader market.
Rebecca Oliver-Mooney, Co-op’s Head of Commercial for drinks, frozen, community buying, and Apiary, commented on the initiative. She expressed enthusiasm over the new opportunity to engage with smaller suppliers at different points in their growth journey. Oliver-Mooney emphasised the importance of fostering diverse range offerings and supplier inclusivity as core objectives of this accelerator scheme.
Oliver-Mooney further elaborated that the scheme is about embracing the entrepreneurial spirit of challenger brands and working collaboratively with them to enhance their market presence. By supporting these suppliers, Co-op aims to bolster their growth trajectory and provide a robust platform for emerging brands to flourish.
The Co-op’s new accelerator scheme marks a significant step towards more inclusive and diverse supplier engagement, fostering growth and market presence for smaller brands.
