The Co-op has unveiled a round-the-clock online grocery delivery service tailored for city-centre customers. This service is being rolled out in locations such as London, Leeds, and Manchester, areas identified due to high demand for online groceries outside standard hours. Sites were selected based on local demographics, high concentration of available delivery drivers, and existing around-the-clock staffing for restocking duties.
To facilitate this service, The Co-op has collaborated with major ecommerce platforms Just Eat, Deliveroo, and Uber Eats. These partnerships are crucial in ensuring timely delivery around the clock, meeting modern consumer requirements for convenience and speed.
Parallel to launching the 24-hour service, The Co-op has broadened its online store accessibility to over 1,600 locations within regular operating hours, enabling more customers to access their shopping needs during late evening hours.
In a strategic move to boost its market share, Co-op aims to capture over one-third of the quick commerce market. Research by the convenience retailer underscores the demand for late-night shopping, revealing over 40% of quick commerce customers are receptive to services between 11pm and 5am. Notably, the service resonates strongly among Gen Z, with 52.3% of shoppers aged 18-24 expressing interest.
Chris Conway, Co-op’s ecommerce director, articulated that addressing the needs of member-owners and customers is central to their approach, aligning with their strategy to expand their quick commerce segment. Conway noted, “We focus on ease, speed, and convenience from our local stores, strategically placed in community core areas.”
