The Footage, a well-loved pub located at the corner of Grosvenor Street and Oxford Road in Manchester, is set to undergo a £1 million transformation. The renovation comes after the pub abruptly closed in May, leaving many patrons and students from nearby universities wondering about its future.
This venue, which boasts a rich history as the Grosvenor Picture Palace since 1912, is owned by Index Investments and will now be operated by Blind Tiger Inns. Blind Tiger Inns are known for managing several notable establishments including The Chestergate in Stockport and The Trafford, a well-known pub for United fans.
Following the refurbishment, the pub will be rebranded as The Grosvenor, honouring its original identity. The intention is to create the ‘ultimate adult escapism experience’ with unique interior designs and features such as a slide allowing patrons to glide past the original cinema balcony. This innovative approach is aimed at offering a distinctive leisure experience.
The revamped pub will host an array of entertainment options. Patrons can expect large sports screens, a photobooth, pool tables, beer pong, darts, and more. Live sports will be broadcast throughout the week, alongside a range of live entertainment on the repurposed original stage. This includes club and quiz nights, music sessions, and DJ performances.
Additionally, a new menu will complement the drink offerings with choices like loaded pizzas, stacked burgers, and sharing platters. The drink selection will feature craft beers, alcohol-free options, cocktails, and premium spirits, aiming to cater to a diverse clientele.
According to Chris Tulloch, Managing Director of Blind Tiger Inns, the vision for The Grosvenor is to merge the best elements of a sports bar, social venue, and nightclub into a single vibrant space. This ambitious project seeks to breathe new life into the historic building while cementing its status as a cornerstone of Manchester’s entertainment landscape.
The Grosvenor’s reopening marks a new chapter in its storied history, promising a unique and vibrant experience for Manchester patrons.
