The British Footwear Development Trust (BFDT) has reintroduced its educational and training grants, continuing its work from 2023 to stimulate growth and innovation in the UK’s footwear sector. This programme is designed to support not just individual growth, but also to offer businesses opportunities for their teams to engage in formal and hands-on experiences.
Since its launch, the initiative has facilitated substantial professional advancement within the industry. For instance, Fairfax and Favor, a Drapers Award-winning business, capitalised on these grants for the enhancement of their product development team. Sara Driscoll, the product development manager, remarked that the funding allowed both novices and seasoned employees to engage in British Footwear Association (BFA) courses, thereby refreshing their skills, networking with colleagues, embracing cutting-edge innovations, and strengthening their industry knowledge.
Helen Errington, a trustee of the BFDT, expressed her enthusiasm about the positive changes these grants could instigate within the industry. She emphasised the charity’s eagerness to witness the growth and innovation brought about through these opportunities, highlighting the sector’s need for such initiatives.
The application process for the 2024 grants commenced on 2 September and is set to close at midnight on 30 September. This time frame provides ample opportunity for eligible parties to submit their applications, ensuring a wide participation across the sector.
The BFDT’s grant programme presents an invaluable opportunity for growth and innovation within the UK footwear industry.
