Ben Sherman, a renowned British heritage menswear brand, has reaffirmed its presence on the UK high street with the launch of two flagship stores. These strategic openings mark a significant return for the brand, as it unveils a 1,300 sq ft store at Dukes Lane in Brighton, where the brand was originally established 61 years ago.
The Brighton store, which opened on 8 August, is set to be complemented by a new location on Berwick Street in Soho, London, scheduled to open on 29 August. This marks a noteworthy development for Ben Sherman, which had previously shut down its flagship stores in London’s Carnaby Street and Commercial Street. This closure followed a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) initiated in August 2020 by Baird Group, a former licensee of the brand.
These new openings indicate Ben Sherman’s resurgence in the full-price retail space, a move likely to attract attention from both longstanding supporters and new customers. The brand continues to operate a pop-up store at Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross, London, as well as seven outlet stores across the UK, including locations such as Ashford and Cheshire Oaks.
Founded in 1963 by its namesake, Ben Sherman initially made its mark with a store aptly named ‘Millions of Shirts’ on Duke Street in Brighton. This expansion strategy now brings the company full circle, reconnecting with its founding roots. In addition to these retail initiatives, the brand was recently the official outfitter for Team GB at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking its third consecutive partnership for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Tim Reid, Executive Vice President of Fashion and Lifestyle at Marquee Brands, the parent company of Ben Sherman, expressed optimism about the brand’s trajectory. He noted, “We look forward to positive brand expansion as we open new flagship stores and continue our year of sport and proud ongoing partnership with Team GB.” The new outlets will offer patrons the first glimpse of the latest collections, featuring an exclusive limited-edition collaboration due in early September.
Ben Sherman’s strategic store openings signify a promising revival of its full-price retail presence in the UK market.
